Amy Elizabeth

Born and raised in Suffolk, England, Amy Elizabeth is a printmaker, illustrator and artist whose work draws deeply from folklore, the natural world, and the charming oddities of medieval marginalia. Her prints reflect a lifelong love of history, local legends, stained glass, and illuminated manuscripts. Fascinated for as long as she can remember by old stories and objects, Amy weaves these together to create work rooted in the tales and traditions that inspire her.

When she’s not in the studio, Amy is most likely outdoors, ideally on a long walk, preferably on a bleak Autumn day, finishing the day by a pub fire with a good pint.

Amy works from her home studio in the village of East Bergholt, where she creates her prints using both a Victorian book press and an etching press, all while enjoying life with her husband and their two children.

Got a question?

A bit about me...

What inspires me to do what I do

From as early as I can remember, I was brought up to appreciate history, old objects and places as well as to enjoy the simple things around us. As much as the 13 year old me would have huffed at the idea of going for a long walk, visiting a castle and ending at the pub, little did I know that those days in my childhood would shape what I love and hold dear in my adult life. What's more, those days are now the days I long for and look forward to.

I have my parents and their love for the past to thank for a lot of my interests now. I draw inspiration for my work from quite a few places; medieval marginalia, curious tales, nature, the moon and her stars, and just a general love for a previous time when things were handmade and timeless. When I make my prints, I want them to transport me somewhere, to that place that makes you feel like you're cosy and warm when you're sat next to a roaring fire with a good pint in hand. I want them to evoke a sense of nostalgia and whimsey, to make you feel in touch with nature and away from modern distractions. I want to give people a little window in to a magical place where life is a bit simpler.

Why I started working as a printmaker and Illustrator

I started printmaking when the first Covid lockdown was announced back in 2020. I knew I needed to do something that would keep my mind busy with so many days ahead stuck inside so I turned to printmaking to try and keep those dark days at bay. I had always wanted to try lino printing so I massively overspent on paper, tools, inks and everything I could think I might possibly need and I started to practice. I began sharing some photos with friends and family, they gave me the confidence to share my work further and it grew from there. After 6 years of being self employed part time, alongside my employed role, Prints by Amy Elizabeth had reached the point where I took the decision to leave my employed work and pursue working full time as a self employed artist.

Do I take on commissions and projects from individuals and businesses?

Yes, I've worked with companies, private individuals and other artists. If you would like to work with me, please send me a message and I will come back to you as soon as I am able.

Where I work

I work in my home studio in East Bergholt, Suffolk. The village is surrounded by fields so a lot of my days are spent walking in the countryside and noticing the small changes in the hedgerows as the seasons roll on. I was born here, so I feel very lucky to be able to live and work somewhere I feel such a connection with.
